Crew's Nursery

The anticipated nursery is finally finished! We are ready for baby Crew to be in his room!

I found a picture on Pinterest that I loved and used for my inspiration for a lot of the room. When I first saw the deer head I instantly fell in love and knew that it would fit us perfectly. The deer antlers and country theme really helped Daniel get excited, too! I also loved the pop of orange that this room had in it. This is the picture I used for my inspiration:

Crew's room turned out even better than I expected! I absolutely love it & I love it even more because we did so much of everything ourselves. So, lets go on a tour!

This is what you see when you walk into his room. We made many of the things you see ourselves. The deer antlers are from the Gurley Farm...at first Daniel didn't want me to put such small antlers on the wall. I had to remind him that this was for a baby! Daniel made the wood sign that says his name on it with barnwood from an old barn and old wire from the farm. He did the whole thing himself, and I am in love with it just because of that! I made the rug, crib skirt and the mobile! We got the blanket as a shower gift also.

This is a close up of the antlers and his name sign. Crew has a really cute quilt coming that will drape over the bed being made by his Grammy...but, its not quite done yet! :)

We added two shelves for holding books, etc. The teddy bear was one of Daniel's favorites when he was little, and the little red combine matches the combine that Daniel has.

Close up of the clay antlers we made for the mobile. I saw this idea on Etsy & knew I could re-create my own! Daniel helped me wire it together and to the ceiling.

As you keep turning to the right you will see his dresser (sorry for some of the clothes still on the ground, I am still sorting). The dresser is one I have had for awhile & its really old but I LOVED the knobs. Daniel sanded it and I painted it to try and match the room.  I made the lamp that has the deer head on it and spray painted an old mirror that my cousin gave me, orange.

As you keep turning around, you will see his changing table. We made the chevron changing pad cover and I bought the orange cubes online. I got the grey containters from Thirty One and they have an orange C monogrammed on them! Crew's closet is the one on the left & the closet on the right is still full of our stuff!
My aunt made us this sign that says, " To go to sleep, I count antlers not sheep." Love it & it fits so well in his room.
Lastly, this is a picture of the curtains we made. Notice that the curtain rod has antlers on the end! Love it! :) My aunt got us some really cute blankets that I wanted to display also.

I am in love with his room & can't wait for him to be here an be able to actually use the room!

Baby Shower! && Name Reveal

My side of the family threw us a wonderful baby shower on June 15. My sister, Shelby, worked so hard getting everything ready and making sure that everything matched his room & theme. She did such a great job and she deserves a huge thank you for all the time and work she put into the shower. Shelby, you rock! My mom, cousin Emily and aunt Nancy also helped her with the shower and food! They are all so great and I am so lucky to have such a great family.

They had the shower at my moms house & when I walked in I was so surprised how wonderful everything looked. It was perfectly decorated!

If you haven't guessed by now, the baby's name is Crew. Shelby really wanted to display his name sign that we put above his bed in the nursery at the shower. So, we figured then was as good a time as any to reveal his name. Daniel and I had a hard time trying to decide what to name this little fella. I looked through baby book after baby book & I think that being a teacher made it even harder to find a name that I liked. And, if I would find a name that I liked it had to then sound good with Gurley, which was a hard task. One day I sat down and wrote all the names I liked on a sheet of paper. When Daniel got home he read over them all and said, I kinda like Crew. And, I said I liked it too, but it was different and I just wasn't sure. So we tossed around names for a month or two but always kept coming back to Crew. I love that it is unique, but not too weird. We still haven't decided on a middle name, yet! My dad and cousin Matt have suggested middle names such as Cab, Cut or Zin, but I can assure you those won't be his middle name!  Back to the shower....

When everyone had arrived we ate and then played some fun shower games! The first game we played was a game with all the onesies that were hanging. I had to guess who brought each onesie, because it had something to do with themselves. Here are the onesies:
I got a good laugh out of the one in the middle. It is from Shelby and the baby is wearing jail attire and it says, "underage drinking" on it! Ha. Definitely fit her and I knew that one right away!

Then, we played the infamous string game where people had to cut a piece of string that they thought was the same size as my belly. Some people were not very nice and had large pieces of string:
But, grandma knew best and her piece of string was almost perfect! She only had a tiny bit of string left over! Way to go, grandma!
Then, we opened gifts. We are so blessed to have such great family and friends. We got tons of things that we needed! I had a great time at the shower, it just went by too fast!

Checkup & Breast Feeding Class

I went in yesterday for my weekly checkup. I was very nervous going into it because I knew this would be my first time getting 'checked' and that whole aspect scared the living daylights out of me. They always check my weight before I go back, so I stepped on the scale. This time, it came out at a whopping 141 & Daniel wasn't there to have his foot on the scale, so I knew it was accurate. That means I gained almost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. Oh lord, help me!

Then I went back and had our last ultrasound. She did this to get measurements on the baby. She tried so hard to get a good face shot of him, but his is VERY low and has his head nuzzled against my hip bone. She never could get a good face shot, but we could see him sucking on his little thumb. Its amazing how big they get. Going into the first ultrasound it looks like a tiny little bean, and then this time she had to move it around so much just to get a shot of a foot, or a hand. The ultrasound tech guessed that he weighs 5 lbs. 11oz or somewhere in the area.

Then I went in and had my check with the doctor. She did the test for Strep B and then checked me to see if I was dilated. (It really wasn't as bad as I was thinking it might be!) She confirmed that his head was really low and that she could FEEL it! She also said I was dilated to a 1. Poor Daniel is trying to get everything done in the field before this baby gets here and she said to tell him not to worry, she definitely doesn't think we will have a baby this week. She said that she would guess he will be 7 pounds when he's born. It's getting so close it is almost unreal.

I then had my breastfeeding class that night after my appointment. Daniel was 'banned' from the class by me because he couldn't stop laughing in the first class about birth! I knew he would have a hay day at this class, so he wasn't allowed. Luckily, he was so busy on the farm he didn't even notice.  It was very informative and I am glad that there will be a lactation consultant at the hospital ready to help when I need it. There were 2 of them and they were both so kind and even gave us their cell phone numbers to call at anytime! Feeling more and more prepared as the days go by!

Weight: 141 (gained 27 lbs. total)
Heartbeat: 150's

35 Weeks

How far along? 35 weeks
Baby is the size of… a coconut!
Maternity clothes? Yes—but I am starting to notice the belly flap on my maternity shorts is getting too tight and leaves a mark! It’s almost time!

Stretch marks? None yet! Daniel tries to remind me to put lotion on at least 2x a day.
Sleep: I don’t sleep all night anymore. Here lately I have been having pains if I don’t lay on my back, if I try to lay on my side I get awful pains.
Best moment this week: My WONDERFUL family threw me an awesome baby shower. Everything was so cute & we got tons of things that we are going to need for little man. I am doing a baby shower post soon!

Miss Anything? Normal sleep!
Movement: Seems like he is moving less now. Maybe because he is getting bigger, but I feel hiccups a lot.
Food cravings:  None really this week. I am noticing that it is hard for me to eat as much anymore. I’m hungry, but there just isn’t anywhere for the food to go!
Anything making you queasy or sick: I got sick this morning. I called the doctor because of the stomach pains, and throwing up. Waiting on her to call me back.
Gender:  Boy! We revealed his name at the shower. Not sure if people really caught on or not.
J Can you tell what it is???
Labor Signs: Not that I really know of?!

Symptoms:  Tired all the time, back hurts, feet hurt, definitely feeling pregnant now!
Belly Button in or out? Definitely out.

Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy, but I do have days when I’m a rip. Especially days that I have Masters class for 4 hours.
Looking forward to: We have our last ultrasound on Monday! I’m excited for them to predict his weight and get to see him one last time before the real thing.

Checkup & Birth Class

We went for our 2 week check up and also birthing class on June 10. I had my check up first with my doctor and it was quick, but everything seems to be going well. She felt around on my stomach and confirmed that baby is still head down. We also got to hear the heartbeat and she measured me and said I was still right on track! Her saying that is always so reassuring! I really like her and love that she gives me plenty of time to ask questions and I never feel rushed.
Once we left we still had about an hour to kill before our class, so we got a 'snack' at Dairy Queen. I am really starting to forget who is pregnant here b/c Daniel CAN NOT stop eating! We shared a chicken strip basket and I got the Smore's Shake I had been wanting to try and he got a strawberry shake. We shared the chicken strips, but I didn't love my shake. So, Mr. had his shake and mine, too! Ha! It just cracks me up how much he has been eating here lately.
Then we went to the birthing class. I am SO glad that we signed up and went to this. It made me feel so much better about what is to come. The girl leading the class is a nurse in The Birth Place and she was very informative and helpful. Also, it was nice to know that we know one of the nurses that works there! It will be nice to see a familiar face while we are there. They talked about contractions, the epidural, etc. The first question Daniel asked was if we were going to have to watch a video of a birth. She said yes and he said he was closing his eyes and ears and not watching! The girl was having computer problems, but she did show us a couple videos (that weren't that bad) but, Daniel did not appreciate seeing them! Ha! I'm a little scared he has no clue what he's in for, even though he assures me he knows how cows do it & we are probably the same!
They also gave us a tour of The Birth Place and you stay in your room from before baby until you go home. I love that. Also, there is a couch for Daniel to sleep on as well. They said they are pretty lenient about visitors & if we feel up to it, they can come whenever. She also said that they try to provide almost everything for mom and baby so that we don't have to bring much & don't have tons of laundry to do when we get home. They also have a snack room for the dads! (Daniels favorite part!) And, on our last night they give us a steak & shrimp dinner. Wahoo! Every aspect of it seemed wonderful and I am so glad I chose to have this baby in Bolivar.

Weight: 136 (gained 22 lbs so far)
Heartbeat: 150's

34 Weeks

How far along? 34 weeks
Baby is the size of… a large cantaloupe!
Maternity clothes? Maternity shorts & capris for sure. Have been wearing medium sized shirts!
J
Stretch marks? None yet!
Sleep: Getting harder and harder. Got up this morning at 5 because little man would not stop doing flip flops in my stomach!
Best moment this week: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY! Daniel turned 27 this week. He has been getting lots done on the farm as this is their ‘busy’ season.  We have had several birthday parties for him & he can’t believe how old his is getting!
J
Miss Anything? Regular pants without the stretchy part over my stomach. That gets OLD in this hot weather! Also miss sleeping on my stomach. Told Daniel the other day that I can’t wait to flop on the bed on my stomach! What an odd wish!
Movement: I am starting to see his sleeping patterns. He is up around breakfast time, before lunch, and before dinner. Then, sometimes in the middle of the night when it wakes me up.
Food cravings:  I haven’t really had any this week…but, my pregnant husband sure has! He has been wanting Chinese BAD! I swear he is more pregnant than me & he swears he is gaining muscle instead of fat, too! Lucky him!
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not really, but I do feel nauseous sometimes when I lay in bed so I have to switch positions.
Gender:  Boy!
Labor Signs: Nope, but I did have some BH or contractions this week. I had to go to my Masters class and sit in class for a long time, and when I got home I could hardly walk in the door. It was definitely some sort of contraction. Luckily, they didn’t last long after I got home.

Symptoms:  Back pain and I seem to be getting cellulite everywhere! Ugh!
Belly Button in or out? Definitely out.

Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy! We are getting so close!
Looking forward to: Tonight we are going to the birthing class! I am nervous, but mostly for Daniel. I hope it doesn’t freak him out even more!

Movement: Baby loves to move. His feet are always kicking me in my right side.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.
Gender:  Boy! AND---he has a name!!! But, we aren’t sharing it with the internet yet! Sorry!
Labor Signs: No

Belly Button in or out? Definitely out.

Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy! I have been very lucky with an easy pregnancy so far. Only 7 more weeks to go!
Looking forward to: Daniels birthday is coming up and we are going to a birthing class in a week! I just hope it doesn’t freak me out!
