I have been very tempted to order a maternity
pillow online for the last couple weeks. I toss and turn all night long & always
wake up on my back (which isn't good if you lay like that long). But, I just
can’t make myself buy a 90.00 pillow! So, while I was browsing Pinterest I saw
a DIY Maternity Pillow tutorial. I followed the girls tutorial pretty
similar...but, I left some steps out & it only took me about 20 minutes to
make this! Let’s hope I sleep great tonight!
1. Buy a King size pillow.
I bought mine at Wal-Mart for 9.00.
2. Lay on the pillow &
make 2 marks where your body will be. I used a purple sharpie to see.
3. Now, open the pillow at
the seam with a seam ripper.
4. Open it all the way down
one side and take the stuffing out. Cut (with scissors) where the purple lines
were. You are just trying to cut that extra part of the stuffing out.
5. Now, you need to take a
straight edge and make a straight line on your pillow going from your purple
mark all the way to the top. Do this on both sides. (This will be the lines you
sew on).
6. Then, take your
pillowcase to the sewing machine and sew almost all the way to the open seam
you ripped (on each side). Leave about ½ an inch to sew the side back together.
7. Put
the stuffing back in each side. Leaving the middle empty. Then, fold the bottom
seams together and sew your pillowcase closed.
I did not spend tons of time trying to make it
look pretty…I am going to put a pillowcase on it anyways! This should support
your back and belly & keep you from sleeping on your back!
